Review: Resident Evil III: Extinction

poster2 Let me start off by saying I’m not really a fan of zombie movies.  Lets also put out the fact that I like the Resident Evil games and find them very fun to play and they do a good job of scaring you. I didn’t know quite what to expect with this movie it being a zombie movie and related to something I liked.

I haven’t seen the first two movies; although, I am familiar with the storyline. The movie was a little vapid for the first half, employing ideas I had seen before in movies like The Matrix. The typical “special” main character who manages to escape from an oppressing system which breeds those like her for an alterior purpose. She then bands up with a group of people making the most of leftovers of the human race on earth, which is now a wasteland, and then after plenty of her new compadres die, she overcomes the oppressor and is put on the track to ultimate victory.

Come on. You could have done SO many other things instead of rehashing the matrix storyline and throwing some zombies in. Please.

Maybe I’m an idiot for watching a zombie movie and hoping for an original plotline and some meaning. There was plenty of action and some interesting scenes including the remnants of the human race and some zombie animals and there’s the token evil doctor/researcher found in every other sci-fi movie. He’s easily the most interesting character.

So to wrap up, if you love zombie movies for their gore, cheap scares and Milla Jovovich then this is definitely the movie for you. If you were expecting an innovative action adventure, don’t waste your time. Buy the game instead.
