Review: Get Smart

I’m going to cut right to the chase and tell you that I give Get Smart a 4/5.

The stars chosen to fulfill the roles were all perfect. It was especially satisfying to see Masi Oka play a very funny and fitting role as a control tech.

Carell looked like a Maxwell Smart; however, he played the character a little to flatly for my tastes.  Carell can be a very funny actor, but somehow we were watching Get Carell instead of Get Smart.

I have to admit though, I didn’t know what to think when the Rock kissed Steve Carell. What planets and stars aligned to make that happen?

Oops, was that a spoiler? My bad.

Overall the movie’s humor element was strong and consistently present. Hathaway plays a beautiful Agent 99, although my opinion, as a Hathaway fan,  is a bit biased.  This movie is something to go see with almost anyone as it will please most everyone who isn’t familiar with the original Maxwell Smart. However few people are familiar with the 1960’s series and will enjoy this movie without any of the hangups associated with knowing too much about the original.

The plotline is well maintained and even and the twists are well executed. I only give it a 4/5 for an average performance by Carell. Everyone else does a fabulous job.
